With today’s busy and fast paced lifestyle, taking 20-30 minutes to soak in a bath is definitely considered a luxury rather than necessity these days. For the Romans and Ancient Egyptians however, it was a very different matter. Bathing was part of their regular health and wellness routine, which later led to the popularity of spas. It is said that Cleopatra herself built a day spa at the edge of the Dead Sea after discovering the beautifying properties of its minerals.
You will begin to discover via my posts that I LOOOOOOOOVE taking baths and I make sure that I carve out 30 minutes to indulge in bath time, at least twice a week. I always like to enhance my bath with different concoctions and potions, which are both handmade by moi or purchased from one of my favourite natural skincare companies.
This super easy and sweet smelling bathing salts recipe, is one of my standard blends that helps the body’s natural process of removing toxins, while ushering you into a blissful state of relaxation. This literally takes 5 minutes to blend, so why not make a batch for you and/or your main squeeze? 😉
The main stars of this blend host a plethora of therapeutic benefits, which include:
Pink Himalayan Salt: Contains 80+ nourishing minerals, its nutrients will help stimulate circulation, soothe muscle soreness and naturally promotes restful sleep.
Epsom Salt: Replenishes magnesium in the body, relaxes the nervous system, soothes muscle pain and aching limbs, treats cold and congestion and helps to draw out toxins from the body.
Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda): Relaxing and gentle exfoliator.
Pyrophyllite Clay: This clay is very high in silica, which is essential for bone growth and helps nourish hair, nails and skin.
DIY Himalayan Detox Bathing Salts
1 ½ cup Pink Himalayan salt – I like to use the larger rock salt but you can use the finer version as well
½ cup Epsom salts
¼ cup Baking soda
2 Tbsp. Pyrophyllite clay
15 drops Fennel essential oil
15 drops Juniper essential oil
5 drops Grapefruit essential oil
1-5 drops Black pepper essential oil
- Put all of the dry ingredients in a metal or glass mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly with a whisk, to ensure that the salts and clay are evenly distributed.
- Add the pure essential oils and mix thoroughly.
- Pour into your airtight container (preferably glass). If you like, let it sit overnight to allow the essential oils to infuse even more into the salts.
- To add a little more fab to the salts, add dried flowers into the blend and on top as well. I used dried cornflowers and calendula petals.
Set aside at least 20 minutes to relax, unwind and just let your mind be still. Run the bath and add ½ cup of the bathing salts under the running water, swirling around to dissolve. Sit down, relax and soak away your stress while you relish in all of the healing benefits that this soak provides for your whole being ☺
Rub-a-dub-dub, get ready to relax in the tub 😀 Enjoy!
Please note: bath salt blends will not “go bad’ but should be stored in a moisture resistant, air-tight container to keep them at their best. Also, always use discretion when using essential oils, especially if it is your first time using them.
